MEGA JORDAN
Mega Jordan is a geographic information system built with the aim of inventorying and managing archaeological sites at the national level. It has been developed using the latest technology and requires nothing more than basic computer skills to enter the boundaries of the site elements and its surroundings.
Mega Jordan Mega Jordan contains site-specific details such as site status, threats and site updates, and prints detailed and updated reports on the huge number of archaeological sites in Jordan. The system works in both Arabic and English.
In 2007, the Department of Antiquities signed a four-year memorandum of understanding with the Getty Conservation Institute and the World Monument Fund with the aim of developing and updating the database to become based on the open-source web system “GIS”, which uses Google Earth as a mapping base. As a result, the Middle Eastern Geo-Data for Antiquities geographic database for antiquities in the Middle East appeared. It contains about 12,500 archaeological sites. The site also allows determining the presence of elements within the archaeological site, such as buildings, written or decorative features, as well as the historical and cultural framework to which each element belongs.
